The purpose of this article is to describe the development and the evaluation of the evidencebased health promotion programme “Discovering New Ways” for persons with age-related macular degeneration occurred in three stages: pre-intervention, intervention and postintervention. The programme was developed from a broad approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods to meet most of the different strengths. To implement evidence-based practice, a randomised clinical trial, an epidemiological study and focus group discussions were conducted. The methods were used in sequence so what was learned from the studies in the pre-intervention stage was added to what was learned from the studies in the intervention stage and so on. The methods used in the studies are highly recommended for developing programmes within practice.Downloads
