Evidence-based Practice in Occupational Therapy: International Initiatives

Evidence-based practice has had a major impact on all areas of health including occupational therapy. However this relatively new paradigm has presented both conceptual and practical challenges to the occupational therapy profession. In response to these difficulties, substantial efforts have been made to assist the implementation of evidence-based practice. There have been numerous professional initiatives designed to progress the uptake of research in practice during the last decade including educational programmes, continuing educational experiences, publications, specialised databases, syntheses of evidence, and international forums in evidence-based practice.
