Abstract

Programa Integrando, an on-going, integrated program for staff training and economic development being conducted by the Academia Brasileira de Ciências and the American Institutes for Research, is using applications of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework to support full social inclusion for Brazilians with disabilities. The project’s conceptual model to support self-determination and personal occupations at home, at work, and in the community is described. Pilot applications of the model in Rio de Janeiro are presented. Applications of the theory and practice of occupational therapy in designing the model, developing a training program for Brazilian rehabilitation professionals, and contributing to the effective implementation of the model in Brazil are featured.
