Abstract

An important aspect of quality development in occupational therapy is the users’ evaluation of interventions, products and services. The aim of the study was to identify problems that users considered important in their contacts with occupational therapists, and to examine the users’ overall satisfaction and their perception of quality of care in personal encounters with occupational therapists in different health care settings. A problem-detection technique (PDT) was used and questionnaires were distributed to 523 users of occupational therapy services in Sweden. The problems were analysed and categorised according tohow serious and how frequent the problems were perceived to be by the users and presented in four categories: Secure quality, Attention, Possibilities and Imaginary problems. Problems that occupational therapy users consider important, overall satisfaction, and their perception of quality of care were clearly demonstrated in the study. The study shows that the problem-detection technique is a good method for investigating users’ opinions of the quality of occupational therapy services.
