Abstract

Occupational therapists have a role to play in facilitating the recovery and continued well being of women and children affected by conflict and war. Women need to develop strategies to cope with war-induced changes in the economic environment and to meet the growing responsibilities for the survival and welfare of family and relatives. Many of them suffer traumatic experiences such as the loss of their husbands, rape, and violence. Most of them have no source of income or necessary skills to find jobs. This case study describes a woman’ development of economic and coping skills through the support of the occupational therapist and self help group members.
