An overview of occupational therapy in Africa

Abstract

This article provides an overview of the situation of occupational therapy in Africa. Countries where occupational therapy is practised on a regular basis, and those with education institutions and professional associations are presented. The regional group, OTARG, the official WFOT regional group for Africa is described. Narratives by occupational therapists in seven African countries provide an overview of the on-the-ground situation at the moment. A few resources and the particular challenges faced by occupational therapy in Africa are mentioned.
