Abstract

The construction of peace in regions, which like Colombia, have experienced long-term conflict, requires the participation of all citizens and organisations. The Committee of Rehabilitation, a non-government organisation of the city of Medellin, Colombia is doing this through the implementation of a model seeking to achieve the maximum levels of independence and autonomy in the activities of daily living of people with disability by encouraging their participation and recognising their needs and expectations and supporting this strategy in full recognition of their rights. All of this is to be achieved with the participation of interdisciplinary teams which include occupational therapy professionals in alliance with different sectors in the country, including government bodies, private businesses, social agencies and the academic world.
