Abstract

The purpose of this study was to gain understanding of the use of socialization as a therapeutic tool for persons who suffer dementia. Occupational therapists working at adult care centers or long term institutions are using activity groups for the management of behavioral, mental and sleeping disorders, symptoms often associated in dementia. The purpose of this investigation, is to demostrate that socialization improves the sense of well-being and quality-of-life. In this study 86 patients were screened. They had stable general health condition and were in an appropiate medication therapy, allowing them to participate in group activities.
