Some Thoughts on the Chronic Mental Pain of Mothers of the Mentally III

Abstract

The concept of chronic pain is expanded to include chronic mental pain, in particular that of the mothers of mentally ill children and young adults. The stories of mothers and their desperation are considered in the light of psychoanalytically oriented occupational therapy. A hypothesis for an intervention designed for their needs is discussed.
