Abstract

Values shape our practice and form a part of our profession’s philosophy. Our values support and are consistent with the principles of health promotion. However, we as OT’s have not always been active participants in health promotion programs. It has been only in the past 30–40 years that we have increasingly made our mark in this area of practice. If we are to assert our unique contribution to health promotion, it is imperative that we become explicit about the values that guide our practice. This paper identifies the values of OT and discusses their implications on the practice of OT in health promotion.
